According to German outlet BILD, De Ligt is accused of ‘ramming a parked car’ close to Bayern’s Sabener Strasse training ground on Wednesday morning while driving his £63,000 Audi Q8 e-tron.
The report claims the defender ‘simply drove away’ from the scene as witnesses immediately called the police to report the occurrence.
De Ligt’s car was reportedly towed away and impounded, with the Netherlands international now thought to be facing possible criminal charges.
United boss Erik ten Hag worked with De Ligt at Ajax and has previously shown an interest in the 24-year-old, who spent three seasons in Serie A at Juventus.
“It remains to be seen whether De Ligt will come, I know him well,” Ten Hag said to Dutch media in July.
The United boss previously said: “I wanted to sign him two years ago but at that time, he was already very far along to join Bayern. Believe it or not, his name did not come from me in the process,
“During my vacation I was three or four weeks out of the process. During that period it was really the club, the newly equipped scouting and recruitment department, that brought in these players.
“The fact that there are also Dutch people among them is in fact a coincidence. Primarily, these were players who were proposed from our organisation. But of course I support it, let that be clear. And we still make the choice together.”
News of the alleged incident comes at an uncertain time in De Ligt’s playing career having fallen down the pecking order under new boss Vincent Kompany.
Bayern splashed an initial £59.5million on bringing the highly-rated defender in from Juventus in 2022.
De Ligt has played under three different managers within that time and after making a bright start to life in Bavaria, has been unable to recapture his best form.
United remain potential suitors for De Ligt after cooling their interest in Everton’s Jarrod Branthwaite following Everton’s valuation of the England star.
The Old Trafford club have already signalled their intention for a double raid on the Bundesliga giants with Ten Hag also keen to add De Ligt’s teammate Noussair Mazraoui.
