Caitlin Clark has made her mark on WNBA history by setting a series of assist records, but the Indiana Fever rookie has also struggled with ball security and already set the all-time record for turnovers in a season. That was the case in Indiana’s 90-80 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on August 24, when she dished out eight assists but also committed seven turnovers. After the game, sports commentator Jason Whitlock called out the rookie and said her “sloppy” play is hurting the team. “They gotta quit making excuses for Caitlin Clark’s turnovers. It’s sloppy and hurting her team,” Whitlock wrote in a post on X. But Clark also has plenty of defenders when it comes to turnovers. In July, Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd pointed out that the rookie guard has a lot on her shoulders.
“You know who also has a lot of turnovers? Players who play fast and loose,” Cowherd said. “LeBron [James] leads the NBA all-time in turnovers. Steph [Curry] and Luka [Doncic] have a lot of turnovers. I’ve never banged on quarterbacks who throw picks if they’re productive.”
