Fans already fretting the status of Bayern Munich’s backline probably got a little anxious earlier today when reports started to break that neither Kim Min-jae, nor Dayot Upamecano were present at the team’s training session.
After the Bundesliga opener where neither Min-jae nor Upamecano were really all that solid individually (as a pairing, the duo was subpar as well), losing both players still would have been a punch to the gut to fans already reeling and eager to see the players improve:
However, there was a reason. First, Min-jae was training individually
Later, Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau said that Upamecano was held out of practice due to load management:
So, there you have it — there is no reason to hit the panic button already this season, but clearly, the health of the center-back duo will remain to be key at a position where there is very little organizational depth ready for first team football at the moment.
