It has been a month and a day since that fateful result at Wembley which has condemned Leeds to the second tier of English football for a second season, while Southampton gain an instant top-flight return.
The effect it has had on both transfers windows is stark. Southampton do not need to sell any of their squad and have secured a permanent deal for Taylor Harwood-Bellis believed to be worth north of £20m.
They have also landed the return of Adam Lallana after his Brighton deal expired. Leeds meanwhile have not made any signings though the return of Brenden Aaronson will feel like one, as he returns next term.
Indeed, Leeds will now need to sell a handful of key players with Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto, Ilia Gruev, Archie Gray and Charlie Cresswell generating interest, but Leeds has yet to make any movements.
A report from TalkSPORT now says that Southampton are in the running to sign a player that played for Leeds during Marcelo Bielsa’s reign, and actually scored five goals in his 19 games under the Argentine.
Eddie Nketiah is likely to be the talk of the window once again this summer as he struggles to start regularly under Mikel Arteta. Southampton are rivalling West Ham and Crystal Palace for his signature.

Eddie Nketiah is likely to be the talk of the window once again this summer as he struggles to start regularly under Mikel Arteta. Southampton are rivalling West Ham and Crystal Palace for his signature.
The report not only says Nketiah is earning a huge £100,000 a week sitting on the bench at The Emirates, but also that The Gunners value the record England U21 goalscorer at a quite ridiculous £50m.
Southampton have gained promotion and will benefit from the luxury of Premier League TV money, but only a few clubs can really argue their case for spending £50m on a player that is not starting regularly.
The only chance Southampton have of striking a deal is by offering a loan, with an option that must see Arsenal compromise. There are not going to be any buyers for Nketiah if they stick with their £50m fee.
At this stage of the window, it is unclear what sort of budget Leeds will have to spend this summer, but one thing is for sure, they will have to be smart with their spending.
Leeds splashed just shy of £30 million on new signings a year ago and Paraag Marathe has again confirmed funds will be available to spend.
However, using Marathe’s comments and last summer’s figure as a ballpark, it is difficult to see Leeds spending a large chunk on one individual player.
Joel Piroe was the most expensive signing of the window 12 months ago at an initial fee of around £10.5 million from Swansea City.
