Latest Update;AC Milan: Four Potential Replacements for Paulo Fonseca

AC Milan’s decision to hire Paulo Fonseca is already being questioned, just weeks into the new season. Fonseca, who replaced Stefano Pioli despite Pioli’s 2021 Serie A title with the club, arrived with no major league titles to his name. After four league matches, Milan find themselves mid-table, compounded by a humiliating Champions League loss to Liverpool.

Under Pioli, Milan seemed to be on an upward trajectory, but the club now risks stumbling due to what many see as poor decisions from the front office. While Fonseca has become the face of the team’s struggles, many, including club legends, viewed his appointment as a mistake from the start.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, there are already four candidates being considered as replacements for Fonseca. Among them are former Dortmund coaches Thomas Tuchel and Edin Terzic, as well as ex-Juventus managers Max Allegri and Maurizio Sarri. Sarri is reportedly the frontrunner, having previously won Serie A with Juventus, while Tuchel is the most high-profile option, having lifted the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021.

Allegri and Terzic are considered less inspiring choices. Though Allegri won multiple Serie A titles with Juventus and reached two Champions League finals, his recent stint was widely criticized, despite finishing above Milan last season. Terzic, meanwhile, was dismissed from Dortmund despite a Champions League final appearance, with many blaming his poor league performances and strained relationships with club icons Mats Hummels and Marco Reus. For Milan, hiring Terzic might prove to be just as controversial as the Fonseca appointment.
