BREAKING NEWSV; Alabama’s Nick Sheridan explains Jalen Milroe’s lack of rushing

Jalen Milroe’s legs have been a huge key to Alabama football’s offensive success this season. The quarterback led the team in rushing for the majority of the Crimson Tide’s games but was third on the list for UA’s loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday.

The redshirt junior was limited to 10 yards on the ground, though that’s not adjusted for the 11 yards lost on two Commodore sacks. He did rush for a touchdown from 14 yards out in the third quarter, accounting for the majority of his yardage on the ground.

On Monday, Alabama offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan said the lack of yardage from Milroe was largely due to the game plan.

“We didn’t run him as much,” Sheridan said. “I would say just, he had the one touchdown run in the red area. And just kind of the flow of how the game went. Some of the different things that we did, the ball just went to other people, so that’s just kind of how the flow of the game went, and kind of, the plays that we called and the plays we were executing, they weren’t necessarily designed for him to run.”

Despite the loss, Milroe played well in the defeat. Offense was not the main problem for the Crimson Tide, as its defense was unable to get off the field throughout the game

The quarterback completed 19 of his 25 passes against the Commodores for 312 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a pick six to Vanderbilt, but that was mostly due to a wild bounce off a helmet

“There was a couple of (runs) that he popped through there, and the rest of them were more off-schedule scramble-type situations, so there weren’t that many opportunities for him to run,” Sheridan said. “And we didn’t call as many as we had through the course of the game, but that’s just kind of how the game unfolded.”

Alabama will be back in action on Saturday, facing South Carolina in Tuscaloosa. The game is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. CT and will be aired on ABC.
