Rangers are in talks to sign Hamza Igamane but reports that it is already a done deal appear to be premature, according to The 4th Official.
The outlet reported via Patreon on 18 June that multiple sources have corroborated negotiations over the 21-year-old, but reports from his native Morocco that a £1.5million move is locked in could not be confirmed.
Rangers are tipped to land a “proper coup” for one of the “brightest talents in the game” if they do succeed in signing the young forward, but it may be further off than has previously been reported.
The Daily Record had reported on 17 June that Igamane’s signing was set to be officially announced in Scotland within a matter of days, but T4O’s update suggests that is not likely yet.
Rangers may already have wrapped up deals for Jefte, Oscar Cortes and Clinton Nsiala but when the season ended in such disappointment there will understandably be an eagerness to make extensive changes.
The transfer window faces being disrupted by multiple international tournaments this summer, while profit and sustainability concerns have dictated that some clubs have no choice but to wait until the new accounting period before they spend.
So while there appears to be a lot of interest at Ibrox to bring new players in there are now multiple avenues of pursuit where substantial advances have gone quiet.
Igamane joins the likes of Connor Barron and Yusuf Kabadayi as players who it appears the club have made advances towards but haven’t yet been able to get them over the line.
There is plenty of time to go until the new season kicks off but Clement will want as many new recruits in as soon as possible to get them familiarised with what he wants to do.
If Igamane, who scored seven and assisted six in 20 league appearances last term, is as highly rated as has been largely suggested he would seem to be worth the wait.
And if the reports from Morocco are all indicating a move is happening it would imply that it is very much possible, as it may be his club, his agent, or his family trying to talk up the prospect.
So if the Light Blues are indeed interested and the money is right it would likely mean a deal that is there to be done, potentially on top of one for Albion Rrahmani.
In other Rangers news, one first team ace at Ibrox is now engaged in talks over a transfer away.
