The Los Angeles Lakers have been without a head coach for weeks now.
Jeanie Buss’s team fired Darvin Ham shortly after the end of the season, which was hardly a surprise.
they were rumored to be interested in JJ Redick to be his successor.
Then, they made a big offer to lure Dan Hurley away from UConn, an offer he eventually turned down.
Redick has now finished his interviews with the Lakers, and the clock is ticking.
With that in mind, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that it shouldn’t take much longer before they have their new boss.
Talking on The Pat McAfee Show, Charania revealed that the Lakers want to have their new coach by the time the NBA Draft comes (Via Lakers All Day Everyday)
Notably, that means that they should make an announcement in the following days, as the Draft will take place next week.
Redick has officially gotten through with his obligations as a broadcaster, as the NBA Finals are already over.
With only James Borrego and himself as the reported candidates, all signs point to the former NBA player as their likely choice.
Redick recently started a podcast with LeBron James, and the timing of that has raised some eyebrows around the league.
Nevertheless, with not many feasible candidates left and now the Detroit Pistons also in the running to get a new head coach, the Lakers simply cannot afford to wait for much longer before making a decision and getting their new tactician.
