NEWS; Leicester City target Crystal Palace striker

Leicester City have been linked with surprise interest in Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew.

City want new attacking options ahead of their Premier League return and Ayew could be available for a cut-price fee as Eagles manager Oliver Glasner revamps his squad at Selhurst Park. If City were to act on that interest, they would be bringing in a very experienced attacker.

Able to play up front or out wide, 32-year-old Ayew has made 274 Premier League appearances over his career. He’s been with Palace for six years and been a regular for nearly all of his spell in south London, playing at least 30 Premier League matches a season over the past five years.
Last term, the Ghana international scored four goals and set up seven more for Palace, mostly from a right-wing berth. He’s not scored more than five goals in a season since 2019-20 though.

The report of City’s interest comes from journalist Alan Nixon, who says the future of striker Tom Cannon could be impacted by any incoming signing. The Republic of Ireland international is being eyed for a loan by plenty of clubs in the Championship, with Sheffield United, Stoke and West Brom listed as suitors.

City would unlikely sanction Cannon’s exit unless they brought in a new striker. Plus, they’re currently without Jamie Vardy, who has picked up an injury in pre-season, leaving Cannon rivalling Patson Daka for the starting striker berth.

“We need to see how Jamie is,” Cooper said when asked if he was hoping to sign a new striker. “He’s not with us at the moment. Pato’s here and Tom. We’re still working out that process.

“Hopefully Jamie can get back as soon as possible because he looked so sharp before he had that knock. We all know what he can still offer and I’ve been enjoying working with him.

“That’s where I am at the moment with that. It’s too difficult to say we definitely need this and definitely need that, because it’s about putting a jigsaw together where everybody clicks. We’ll see.”
