“I need to try to find a way to beat Jannik Sinner again” – Daniil Medvedev speaks on

Former World No.1 Daniil Medvedev finished the 2024 ATP season with an impressive 46-21 match win record, although he suffered five out of six losses to Italian star Jannik Sinner.

Despite his consistency, Medvedev ended the year without lifting a title. The Russian reached the final at the Australian Open and Indian Wells this year, but was unable to capture the trophy as he fell to Sinner in Melbourne.

Sinner dominated rivalry in 2024 season

One of Medvedev’s biggest hurdles in 2024 was Sinner, as the World No.1 won five of six matches against the Russian. Medvedev did defeat Sinner at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, prevailing in a five set quarterfinal thriller.

With Medvedev taking a few weeks off during the off-season, the former US Open champion will return next year with the aim of changing his fortune against Sinner. Medvedev added former French player Gilles Simon to his coaching team less than a year ago, and the 28-year old admitted he would spend more time with his coach trying to figure out how to get past Sinner.

“This year, Simon and I got to know each other better, we got to know each other well,” said Medvedev in an interview with Kommersant. “Now we will try to do a thorough pre-season preparation together and see what comes of it.

“I won’t go into details, but I have an idea on how to improve my game with the balls I’m using now. It’s not a fact that it will work. I need to try to find a way to beat Jannik Sinner again, to whom I’ve lost so many times in recent months.”

Medvedev did not enter any events prior to the 2025 Australian Open in January, therefore his first opportunity to seek revenge on the defending champion could be in Melbourne.
