Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell’s summer exit and transfer to Toulouse is expected to be announced imminently, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The outlet reported on its website on Sunday (30 June) that the young Centre-back’s move to the Ligue 1 side is near completion and he is expected to be unveiled in France sooner rather than later.
Daniel Farke’s side and Toulouse are understood to have agreed to a £3.8million transfer fee for Cresswell’s services with reports suggesting the England youth international will undergo a medical next week [Adam Pope, 29 June].
Will Leeds United sell Charlie Cresswell in the summer transfer window at Elland Road?
Cresswell’s exit this summer has been obvious almost from the start of last season. While he has always been an incredibly promising talent, he has never held down a consistent place at Leeds United under Daniel Farke.
With Pascal Struijk set to return from injury next term and Ethan Ampadu impressing in defence last time out, there is little chance of the England youth international forcing his way into the German’s plans next year.
Ultimately, it will be best for all parties if he moves on this summer so that the Whites can pocket a reasonable fee for his services and Cresswell can finally move somewhere where he is guaranteed first-team football.
There will always be those who suggest he should have been given more of a chance at Elland Road and while that may well have been true, he is behind a number of excellent defenders in the current pecking order.
When compared to the disappointment of Archie Gray’s impending exit to join Tottenham this summer, this deal doesn’t seem quite as bad. Hopefully, it will be confirmed quickly to help balance the books in Yorkshire.
In other Leeds United news, Farke’s stance on Gray’s move to Tottenham has emerged ahead of a potential summer switch.
