Without the Ibrox club ever having shown a genuine interest, no less.
But as Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen set about improving a stuttering Rangers squad, the frontline has found itself firmly under the microscope.
Cyriel Dessers insists he’s going nowhere, whilst Brazilian striker Danilo has pledged goals after making a return from injury.
Throw Moroccan signing Hamza Igamane into the mix – although Clement insists the £1.7m summer signing isn’t ready to start – and suddenly we’re well stocked up top.
But with the situation over Abdallah Sima up in the air and Fabio Silva returning to Wolves, there’s still space for one more hitman to join the Gers this summer.
And for those Rangers supporters urging the club to move for Rapid striker Albion Rrahmani, a path from Romania to Scotland remains open.
It’s not just Rangers who’ve been linked to Albion Rrahmani this summer.
Heading into the window, the 23-year-old’s 19-goal debut season with Rapid Bucharest is said to have turned heads across Europe.
The likes of Benfica, Aston Villa and Napoli have been mentioned, whilst both Slavia and Sparta Prague are routinely linked in the Romanian press.
But one name appeared set to come in and blow all of the sides out of the water.
Champions League-bound Bologna have just sold striker Joshua Zirkzee to Manchester United with Rrahmani initially tipped to replace the Dutchman in Italy.
With somewhere in the region of £100m pouring into Bologna’s coffers, they could certainly afford Rrahmani’s steep asking price.
But far from cough up the reported €8m (£6.7m) Rapid are demanding for Rrahmani, Bologna have reportedly turned their attentions elsewhere.
After infamously snapping Lewis Ferguson up from Aberdeen under Rangers noses, the Serie A side were briefly linked with a move for Bojan Miovski.
But now it appears that Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis is top of the club’s wish list, with once-Rangers linked Toulouse striker Thijs Dallinga also mentioned.
Corriere dello Sport claim a deal for the Greek hitman won’t come cheap though; Panathinaikos are holding out for €25m (£21m).
With no mention of Albion Rrahmani, it appears the Rapid Bucharest star is staying put for the time being.
Whether this whets the appetite of Rangers or not remains to be seen, but Rrahmini spoke candidly about his Rapid future only last week.
Suggesting that he’s happy in Bucharest for the time being – with Rapid just appointing Neil Lennon as manager – Rangers will have to put up if they’re in anyway serious of striking a transfer.
“I am here, I am 100% focused on Rapid,” said Rrahmani. “I will fight for the team, for the fans, because they always support us. As long as I am here, I will give my all.
“I don’t know. If (Bologna) offer something, I will talk to Mr. Şucu (Rapid’s owner), if it’s a good offer for me, I will decide.
“My interest is to play in the top five leagues in Europe. I hope to achieve that one day.”
