UPDATE; Newcastle make move for Chelsea winger

The former Three Lions player resigned from his role following a 2-1 defeat against Spain in the final of Euro 2024, ending an eight-year tenure.

Several names have already been touted as potential successors to Southgate, including ex-Chelsea boss Graham Potter and current Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.

As he is contracted to the Magpies, the Football Association would have to pay compensation to lure Howe away from the North East.

While Howe’s future at St. James’ Park remains uncertain, it appears that those in charge of the club are working hard to bolster the squad before the start of the new season.

As per Football Insider, Newcastle have enquired about the availability of Chelsea winger Noni Madueke.

The 22-year-old joined the Blues from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in January last year and has enjoyed a relatively impressive first 18 months in West London.

In total he has made 46 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing three assists.

The former Tottenham Hotspur academy player hasn’t established himself as a regular starter at Stamford Bridge, though, and Newcastle have identified him as a potential target as they search for a new right winger.

Chelsea are likely to offload players before the end of the current transfer window, having already spent in excess of £65 million on the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Marc Guiu.

Madueke, who cost Chelsea a reported £29 million when joining the club last year, is contracted to the Blues until the end of the 2029/30 campaign.

While Newcastle have enquired about the Englishman, the report claims that no official talks have yet taken place.
