Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have been in constant contact throughout the summer over the future of Alphonso Davies.
While the Bavarian giants are working hard to ensure that their star left-back stays at the club, the player appears keen on joining Real Madrid, although a move at this point appears distant due to his asking price.
Now, according to reports from Rodra, Los Blancos are eyeing another Bayern Munich star as a potential target, especially given his contractual status – Joshua Kimmich.
It was reported that the club stepped out of the race owing to the potential transfer fee, but the 29-year-old’s contractual situation opens a window of opportunity.
Kimmich’s current deal with Bayern Munich runs out next June and he is thus less than 12 months away from being a free agent. Real Madrid, as is well known, are adept at capitalising on such situations
The Spanish journalist thus adds that there is fear in the Bavarian camp that Kimmich may end up being a target for Real Madrid.
After all, the ongoing Davies saga has shown them how helpless they are in the final year of a player’s contract.
It remains to be seen if Bayern Munich pursue a renewal in the coming weeks and whether Kimmich is open to a departure. As it stands, everything will likely boil down to the new coach, Vincent Kompany, and the midfielder’s role in the team.
Last season, the 29-year-old made 28 appearances for Bayern in the Bundesliga, scoring one goal and providing six assists in the process.
He even starred for Germany in the recently concluded Euro 2024, providing two assists and playing over 90 minutes in all five of the team’s matches.
