NEWS; Connor Goldson add-ons update emerges at Rangers after £1.4m Ibrox exit

The Rangers Review journalist reported on the Morning Briefing (30 July) that the nature of the Light Blues’ add-ons remains unknown at this stage after the defender ended his six-year stay at Ibrox.

Goldson had been surrounded by speculation throughout the summer transfer window and his move to the Cypriot side was confirmed by the Gers on Tuesday, but the fee was left undisclosed by the club.

Speaking on the Morning Briefing, Clark said: “He has signed for Aris Limassol on a three-year deal. He ends his six-year stay in Glasgow and in terms of a fee folks although Rangers have said it’s undisclosed, hearing from the Cypriot side that it is possibly around €1.7million with add-ons.

“What those add-ons are I’m not entirely sure.”

While there will be some supporters who argue that the Gers should have got more for one of their first-choice defenders, this feels like it is a good piece of business from the Light Blues in the grand scheme of things.

Goldson is nearing the twilight of his career and his performances dipped quite severely over the course of last season so Rangers were never going to be in a position to demand a big-money fee for the 31-year-old.

Had there been more competition for his signature, a bidding war could well have broken out at Ibrox and therefore driven up his valuation, but the lack of interest in his services will have seen the asking price lowered.

The most important thing for Philippe Clement’s side this summer however was getting wages off of the bill and through the sale of Goldson, they have managed to put a massive dent in that monthly allowance.

Hopefully, he is the first of a few high-profile exits between now and the end of the summer transfer window.
