NEWS; Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt under investigation for alleged hit-and-run that might end his career

According to a report by Bild, Munich police are investigating Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt on suspicion of a hit-and-run. The defender is alleged to have rammed a parked car near the club’s training grounds at the Säbener Straße on Wednesday morning.

Per the report, a witness apparently saw the accident occur at 10am, at which point they called the police. It’s unclear from the report whether the witness saw de Ligt himself at the scene, but police were given an important clue — De Ligt was driving an Audi Q8 E-tron to training at the time.

The report is sparse on details, as Munich police did not want to comment on the investigation for data protection reasons. Bayern Munich and Matthijs de Ligt have also not commented on the incident.

For now, the police continue to investigate the damage. It’s unclear what effect this will have on the Dutchman’s pending transfer to Manchester United, or how this affects the rest of the club’s summer transfer window.
