NEWS; Leicester City Targets Jordan Ayew Major Striker Move Set to Shake Up Transfer Market

Leicester City will rival Nottingham Forest for the signing of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, but both sides could struggle to convince him to move to the Premier League.

City have registered an interest in the 23-year-old according to reports in Mexico, the country he represents internationally, as their search for a striker goes on. But it seems Gimenez has his heart set on a Champions League side, and is willing to stay at Feyenoord if one doesn’t come forward.

Gimenez will be on the radar of clubs around Europe after two brilliant seasons in the Netherlands in which he scored 49 goals in 83 games. He’s started this campaign on fire too, with four goals and two assists in three matches.

His goals last season under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot helped Feyenoord qualify for the revamped Champions League, and it seems being able to play in Uefa’s top competition will be a factor in any decision Gimenez makes over his future. Still, if City were to try to push for him, they’d have to bid more than £21m, with Forest seeing an offer of that size rejected.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew could still arrive at the King Power Stadium before the end of the transfer window. While he has played as a striker in the past, he has spent more time recently playing wide.

City have been chasing Ayew and other strikers simultaneously, so it may be the case that they still bring in a forward even if the Ghanaian does join. City still want two new attacking recruits before the end of the window, with manager Steve Cooper saying the club went close to two signings last week, with one of those thought to be Czech forward Adam Hlozek, who instead left Bayer Leverkusen for Hoffenheim.
