For nearly a decade, each summer has been filled with rumors of Vladimir Lucic’s possible return to Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade. This year was no different, but for the first time, the speculation seemed more grounded. Vladimir Androic, an assistant to coach Zeljko Obradovic, revealed that the club made attempts to bring back both Lucic and Nikola Milutinov, though these efforts ultimately fell short.
Lucic addressed the situation in an interview with Basketball Sphere: “I still have one year left on my contract with Bayern,” he said. “People forwarded me that statement, even Leo Westermann, although I don’t know where he got it from (laughs). The statement wasn’t fully accurate. I can only say that this was really the first summer there were some contacts, but I am still a Bayern player.”
At 35, Lucic remains the captain of Bayern Munich, where he has played since 2016. During his time in Germany, he has led the team to three German League championships (2018, 2019, 2024).
Earlier in his career, Lucic played for Partizan, his hometown team, from 2008 to 2013. During those years, he helped the team secure four ABA League titles (2009–2011, 2013) and five Serbian League championships (2009–2013).
Meanwhile, former NBA player Dwayne Bacon found himself adjusting to a new chapter in his basketball career with AS Monaco. After a call from former teammate Donta Hall, Bacon considered the opportunity to join the EuroCup champions. “AS Monaco wanted me to come and play,” Bacon recalled. “I did some research, saw they were in the EuroLeague, and felt it was the perfect opportunity.”
Since joining, Bacon has experienced ups and downs, including limited starts and fluctuating playing time. Despite initial struggles, his move represents a fresh challenge on the European stage.
Monaco, having secured the EuroCup title, made their EuroLeague debut in the 2021-22 season, only to encounter a rough start, which led to the departure of head coach Zvezdan Mitrovic mid-season. Bacon, alongside other team members, is navigating these challenges as they aim for better performances moving forward.
