Max Christie
Max Christie has been a topic of much discussion among Lakers fans, embodying either the franchise’s scouting and development strengths or its weaknesses, depending on your perspective.
On the positive side, Christie has shown enough potential to justify the Lakers’ decision to aggressively sign him in restricted free agency to a four-year, $32-million deal. He possesses the ideal NBA size, a promising three-point shot, and the right mindset to carve out a meaningful role on the team.
However, he has yet to secure consistent playing time. While part of that may be due to the coaching staff’s choices and a crowded backcourt, some of it is also attributed to the natural inconsistencies expected from a 21-year-old player.
This season, especially following his new contract and the coaching changes, opportunity should not be an issue for Christie. He is expected to get significant minutes right from the start of training camp, a first for him in his professional career.
His biggest challenge will be on the defensive end, where he needs to prove he can effectively guard primary scorers. While he has shown flashes of being a capable defender, the goal now is to make those flashes a regular occurrence.
Song of the Week: “Wristwatch” by MJ Lenderman
This is a space dedicated to celebrating MJ Lenderman, and his new album, “Manning Fireworks,” will be on heavy rotation for me this season, whether through headphones on flights or speakers in rental cars. “Wristwatch” is just one standout track, showcasing why Lenderman remains one of the few artists I’m genuinely excited to listen to. If he had anything to prove, this record proves it. This guy is the real deal.
