Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a bold move for another Bayern Munich star, following their ongoing links to former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane. The Bundesliga seems to be emerging as a key talent source for the Gunners’ transfer chief, Edu Gaspar.
Arsenal Targeting Leroy Sane as Bayern Contract Nears Expiry
Leroy Sane’s contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire next summer, potentially allowing interested clubs to secure his services on a pre-contract deal as early as January. The 28-year-old winger, who has made 176 appearances for Bayern since his £42 million move from City, could soon be looking for a new chapter in his career.
During his time at Bayern, Sane has scored 49 goals and provided 50 assists, making him an attractive prospect for any top club—especially on a free transfer next summer. Arsenal were heavily linked with Sane during the recent transfer window, and reports suggest he could be keen on a move to London. Manager Mikel Arteta, who worked with Sane at Manchester City, is said to be a big admirer.
“He’s a player that has long been on their radar – Arteta is a big fan,” journalist Graeme Bailey noted back in July. “I believe the player would be keen on a move to London. Sane is unsure about his long-term future at Bayern.”
Sane’s admiration for Arteta could give Arsenal an edge in the race for the 65-cap Germany international, who has enjoyed a highly successful career and won numerous trophies. In addition to Sane, Arsenal have also been linked with Bayern’s Canadian left-back Alphonso Davies, whose contract expires in 2025, raising the possibility of another free transfer deal.
Arsenal Considering Ambitious Move for Jamal Musiala
Even more ambitious, however, is Arsenal’s reported interest in Bayern’s young superstar Jamal Musiala, who is widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents in world football. The 21-year-old has been a standout performer for several seasons, and he has already registered two goals and three assists in his first five games this campaign.
Leroy Sane’s Bayern Munich Stats (2023/24) | |||
---|---|---|---|
Competition | Games | Goals | Assists |
Bundesliga | 27 | 8 | 11 |
Champions League | 12 | 2 | 2 |
DFB-Pokal | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Musiala’s contract runs until 2026, but Bayern Munich could find themselves in a vulnerable position if the player’s contract situation isn’t resolved soon. Valued at a staggering £152 million, Musiala’s price could drop significantly by next year if negotiations over an extension falter.
According to The Boot Room, Arsenal have joined the race to sign Musiala, adding him to their list of ambitious transfer targets. With his ability to score in double figures in each of the past two seasons, Musiala would be a major coup for the Gunners and one of the most exciting potential moves in world football.
