We have already reached Week 6 of the 2024 NFL season. The Tennessee Titans are coming off their bye week and will face the Indianapolis Colts in Nashville.
Before the bye, the Titans picked up their first win of the season against the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football. The win has the Titans sitting at 1-3 overall before the team’s first division game.
The Colts, meanwhile, are 2-3 overall but 0-2 in AFC South play. The Titans are the only AFC South team that has yet to play a division matchup.
This should be an exciting game, as these rivalry matchups usually are. Let’s get into five things you need to know before this game begins.
Both teams are dealing with notable injuries
In Week 4, Will Levis left the game against Miami with a shoulder injury. The quarterback did not return, and Mason Rudolph led the Titans to a victory.
Brian Callahan has insisted that Levis will be the QB if he is healthy, but his status is still up in the air as of this writing.
The Colts are dealing with their own injury issues. Quarterback Anthony Richardson and running back Jonathan Taylor both missed the team’s last game with injury. Even if Richardson and Taylor play, they likely will not be at full strength.
This Week 6 tilt could be approaching must-win status for the Colts.
As mentioned above, the Colts already have two division losses. Falling to 0-3 in the division would be a disaster for the Colts, especially with the Houston Texans sitting at 2-0. Having already lost to the Texans and Jaguars, you have to believe the Colts will do whatever they can to avoid an 0-3 start.
The Titans meanwhile have the perfect opportunity to restart the season. Starting out 1-0 in AFC South play would make the team feel much better about a slow start.
The Titans have struggled to put up points over the last year. As many fans know, the team finally scored 30-plus points in Week 4 against Miami, the first time the team had done that in over 1,000 days.
Looking at matchups against the Colts, though, the Titans have had success. In six of the last 10 matchups, the Titans have scored at least 20 points. For whatever reason, the Titans’ offense is usually better against the Colts than it is against other teams. You’d have to feel good about the Titans getting a win in Week 6 if they score 20-plus again.
