The much loved Village Idiot of Sky Sports News would barely be recognisable to his London based colleagues, he wasn’t cracking gags and showing off his Turkish gnashers.

Knowing that Celtic are closing in on a 55th title success looks like it is causing the legendary Kilmarnock striker sleepless night with Phil Clement the consistent target for his anger despite having wee Alex Rae keeping him right in the dug out. Rae appears immune from Boyd’s criticism and anger.

As recently as March Boyd was anticipating a Treble Triumph for the Belgian Beale but the 3-3 moral victory over Celtic on April 7 suddenly jolted him into reality.

That was quickly followed up by dropped points at Ross County and Dundee with Boyd falling apart just like his team’s title hopes.

His meltdown after the 3-0 defeat to Celtic last month included claims that Clement’s side had a battle on their hands to finish second.

A few wins over Hibs and St Johnstone restored belief but that defeat at Kilmarnock opens the real prospect of Boyd being on air at Pittodrie next Wednesday discussing a nine point gap in the race for second place.
