KkAuthorities have identified suspects in the high-profile burglaries targeting Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation. Law enforcement officials believe the incidents are tied to a sophisticated South American crime ring operating across the United States.
The suspects are accused of carrying out meticulously planned heists at the homes of Mahomes and Kelce in early October. Kelce’s Leawood, Kansas, residence was broken into on Oct. 7, with approximately $20,000 in cash stolen. Mahomes’ Belton, Missouri, mansion was targeted just a day earlier during a Chiefs game week, highlighting the criminals’ calculated approach
The FBI, collaborating with local authorities in Leawood and Cass County, has been instrumental in identifying the individuals allegedly involved in the burglaries. Officials have not disclosed the number of suspects or their specific roles but believe the group is part of a larger international operation specializing in targeting affluent individuals.
“This is a significant development,” a source close to the investigation stated. “The suspects have been linked to a string of similar crimes, and their methods demonstrate a level of organization and expertise rarely seen in these types of cases.”
The suspects left a trail of evidence
Video surveillance from another nearby burglary, where over $500,000 in jewelry was stolen, proved pivotal in tracking the suspects. The footage revealed a methodical and well-coordinated approach, consistent with operations attributed to transnational crime rings.
Security expert Mike Barbieri noted that such groups often use online tools to profile victims. “If you’re an athlete or high-profile figure, these criminals can find everything they need to plan their moves,” he said.
Mahomes and Kelce have expressed frustration over the incidents, with Mahomes calling the situation “disappointing” and Kelce taking additional measures to secure his property. The crimes have also rattled the local community, known for its reputation as one of the safest areas in Kansas and Missouri.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging vigilance and highlighting the importance of robust security measures. While no arrests have been confirmed yet, the identification of suspects marks a critical step toward solving the case and curbing a wave of similar crimes across the nation.
